$1,009,680
is the total ticket revenue from the 2008 NHL Exhibition game here in Winnipeg.
This is 12,621 fans @ $80 per seat average. When taking into account that most empty seats were at the top of the rink ($39 seats), this Million dollar figure might actually be higher. But this figure is terrific especially for two teams that don't belong to Winnipeg and one team that hasn't seen the playoffs since Noah became a boat-builder. Not to mention at least half of the stars on both teams won't even dress.
So two things to remember:
Firstly, $1 million total gate is good for 11th place in the 30 team league last year.
Secondly, 12,621 is roughly 1,000 fans better than the first ever NHL game held the same week in Kansas City's new arena.
While a second sellout in 3 years at the MTS Centre would have been icing on the cake, Winnipeg has proven over the last 3 years that really . . . there's nothing left for the fans in Manitoba to prove.
If anyone thinks that Manitoban fans still have something left to prove, then they are offside. The fans here should be very proud. Next stop: season ticket commitments for a new team!!
If you think I'm offside, then respond and let me know!
